Pimp · grass (pimp – gras) n. 1. The combination of funk and soul music with bluegrass music.                  2. Bluegrass with bling.
"The most fun project I've ever been a part of." - Scott Vestal (Sam Bush Band)
"Dang. Just had a moment to check out your record. Totally unique. Far out and traditional by turns. Like Appalachian Zappa. Great work!." - Jonathan Byrd
"Now more than ever, breaking down barriers is of prime importance. Credit Tennessee Jed with journeying to those unlikely realms and finding a fit once he arrives." - Lee Zimmerman, Bluegrass Today

Howdy, folks!

Welcome to, the Official Website of singer/songwriter/guitarist, "Tennessee Jed" Fisher, where you can find all things Pimpgrass! For those still not in the know, Pimpgrass is an Americana blend of funk and soul with traditional bluegrass and country music.

Wow. It is amazing how fast things seem to change around here. So, after an amazing first Merlefest experience jamming with Al Al Ingram, Caleb Hanks, Nate Leath, Tommy Maher, and Alex Genova, I moved to the mountains, just outside of Linville Falls! Clayton/Raleigh is always fun, but it was time to move on, and I'm still traveling back there to play a good bit over the rest of the summer. Things are beautiful up here and about 20 degrees cooler on average. And there's lots of good pickers around with Boone and Asheville within easy reach.

We had a great time at Groverfest- thanks to Al Al Ingram, Jacob Burleson (Volume Five), Jay Bird Beverly (Electric Soul Pandemic), and Josh Feldman (Juju Guru) for sitting in. Also thanks to David Hamm and the WAME Chillbillies, and of course, Little Toe and Frankie for giving us such great coverage during the event. And big thanks to Travis Weddington for having us out!

The Official Music Video for Can't Get There From Here, directed and filmed by Tobias Albrigtsen for Untraceable Global and featuring his lovely wife, Eliska, is out now! This abstract, emotional video also showcases some amazing drone camera work, and the beautiful scenery of Colorado as the seasons change. And we destroy another acoustic guitar!!! Stay tuned for the new "Cells" video, scheduled for a late August release!

And the critical love for Pimpgrass just keeps growing. just had this to say about the single, Soul-Country Pimpgrass: "Tennessee Jed ( hits all the right notes in describing the music that most turns him on. Now, we're turned on, too! "Soul Country Pimpgrass" and its accompanying hilarious video showcase Jed's big persona with fine frenetic fiddling and persuasive picking. Jed takes a few jabs at some of his rival genres but when all is said and done - we agree. Let's have more Jed." Thanks for making TN Jed a featured artist!

We also have a feature in the current issue of Americana Rhythm Magazine, so check it out! Big thanks to Suzanne Golden of Golden Relations for putting us in touch!

Pimpgrass is finally available to the public! The best way to support is to purchase directly from this website, but it is available on iTunes/Apple Music, Spotify, CD Baby, and all the other major online outlets. Physical copies are available through CD Baby, School Kids Records in Raleigh, or at shows. Get yours today! Composed of original material except covers of tunes by Prince and The Isley Brothers, this ten song set features an all-star band boasting multiple Grammy awards and nominations, a basket of IBMA awards including the current Fiddle Player of the Year, the 2017 recipient of the Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass, and even a full barber shop quartet showcasing the guy that fills in for Richard Sterban, the bottomless bass singer of the Oak Ridge Boys! Co-produced, mixed and mastered by Scott Vestal at Digital Underground Studio in Nashville, TN, the album was recorded live, mostly in single unrehearsed takes with few overdubs or edits, and you can tell the boys were really feeling it. Here's the whole band on the recording:

"Tennessee Jed" Fisher - lead vocals, acoustic guitar

Scott Vestal (Sam Bush Band) - banjo

Todd Parks (Sam Bush Band) - upright and bass guitar

Luke Bulla (Lyle Lovett, Lee Ann Womack, Ricky Skaggs) - fiddle, baritone vocals

Josh Shilling (Mountain Heart) - Hammond B3, piano, Wurlitzer, clavinette, tenor vocals

Andy Hall (Infamous Stringdusters) - dobro

Patrick McAvinue (Dailey & Vincent) - mandolin

Bob Mummert (Dailey & Vincent, Roy Orbison) - drums, percussion

Aaron McCune (Dailey & Vincent, Oak Ridge Boys) - bass vocals

Our very first official music video for Soul-Country Pimpgrass is live now! Closely following the dream-sequence narrative described in the lyrics of the song, the Tobias Albrigtsen directed video is zany, random, and action-packed, and it's filled with local Raleigh, NC landmarks and personalities. Featured cameos include legendary Pour House Music Hall and Brewery soundman, Jac Cain, Hank Smith from Hank, Pattie, and the Current, Al Al Ingram from the Larry Keel Explosion and formerly of Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band, and Greg Meckley of Urban Soil.

Special thanks to Chip Kloss at School Kids Records in Raleigh for letting us take over his store for an entire day, and extra special thanks to the NC State police officer who let us go after setting off pyrotechnics in the Freedom of Expression Tunnel!

Thanks to everyone for supporting my life-long dream of playing music. I can't wait to play for you sometime soon down the road. Please join my email list here on the website so I can keep you posted about all my musical endeavors and don't forget to add me to your Spotify and Apple Music playlists. While you're at it, tell a friend, and give me a like and/or follow on social media. It is an honor and a privilege to make music for you. Thanks again!

Best wishes,

Tennessee Jed

"Tennessee Jed fancies himself a musical outlaw...But an outlaw? Actually, perhaps."

- Kathy Justice, The Independent Weekly

A soul-shaking singer with thoughtful lyrics and the guitar chops to back them up, “Tennessee Jed” Fisher is a triple threat. Purveying an Americana blend playfully referred to as Pimpgrass (soul and funk rock crossed with bluegrass and country music, aka: Bluegrass with Bling), Tennessee Jed has been traveling the US with his solar powered PA/recording rig, ready to play anytime, anywhere. He has performed and/or recorded with a who’s who list of cutting edge pickers and singers including multiple Grammy winners and members of Steve Martin & Steep Canyon Rangers, Sam Bush Band, Lyle Lovett Band, Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, Infamous Stringdusters, Ben Folds Five, Leftover Salmon, Dailey & Vincent, Mountain Heart, Town Mountain, and The Waybacks. His music has been featured in the TV shows, Duck Dynasty and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Wake Up Call.

Originally from Tennessee, with current home bases in North Carolina and Vermont, Jed has three albums under his belt with a fourth and fifth on the way. Pimpgrass, a full-length album co-produced by Scott Vestal at his studio in Nashville, TN and featuring an all-star band will be released in early Spring, 2018, followed by The Soular Sessions, a solo EP recorded using solar power during a windstorm in the Arizona desert.

"...original music that is blended with tradition, spiced with southern rock and peppered occasionally with reggae and swing to make the perfect auditory cocktail."

- The Galax News

"Jed has a golden throat. He can sing tenor to a canary."

- Robert Greer, Town Mountain
